Best Time to Bet: At -7 or better
Buffalo’s 2-0 start has already produced one of the biggest betting questions of Week 3: has the market pushed the Bills too far, or is the touchdown spread finally catching up with the matchup?
The answer begins with the number.
Buffalo opened this matchup around the field-goal range before the market moved toward -7, and current major-market prices are clustered around that number. FanDuel currently shows Buffalo -7 at -115 with the moneyline around -375 and a 50.5 total.
That makes this less about discovering which team is better and more about determining whether Buffalo can create the margin required to justify laying a full touchdown.
The Market Is Pricing Two Very Different Teams
Buffalo has scored 77 points through two games, while Los Angeles has scored only 28, losing each game 26-14.
That statistical gap explains much of the spread.
But it does not automatically make -7 attractive.
The Chargers still have Justin Herbert, and that matters when handicapping a large number. An underdog with an established quarterback can remain dangerous even when the overall matchup favors the favorite.
The better question is whether Los Angeles can sustain enough offense to prevent Buffalo from turning its offensive efficiency into a multi-score advantage.
Buffalo’s Offensive Ceiling Is the Differentiator
The Bills have already shown an ability to score quickly and from multiple formations.
That puts pressure on the Chargers to avoid falling behind early.
A 10-0 Buffalo lead would dramatically change the game. Los Angeles would become more dependent on Herbert throwing against a defense that knows the Chargers have to pass.
That is precisely the type of game script that can turn a -7 favorite into a cover.
The alternative is much more dangerous for Buffalo bettors: Los Angeles controls possession, converts third downs and forces Buffalo to win a one-score game late.
The Overlooked Angle: Los Angeles Is Thin at Tight End
This is one of the matchup details worth watching closely.
David Njoku and Charlie Kolar have both been placed on injured reserve, leaving Oronde Gadsden II with a significantly expanded role. The Chargers are also dealing with additional offensive-line concerns.
That matters beyond fantasy football.
Tight ends are often used to create easier throws against pressure, provide intermediate targets and help stabilize an offense when the quarterback is facing pressure.
If Los Angeles loses that middle-of-the-field option, Herbert could be forced into more difficult throws.
That could create the negative plays Buffalo needs to separate.
Injury Watch Changes the Handicap
Buffalo has injury questions of its own.
Ed Oliver suffered a hip injury before the Detroit game and was inactive, while DJ Moore’s status remains worth monitoring after his shoulder issue.
For Los Angeles, Derwin James plans to play through his finger injury with a cast. He leads the Chargers with 17 tackles through two games.
These situations make the final injury reports particularly relevant for player props and same-game parlays.
For the spread, however, the biggest question remains whether the Chargers can consistently slow Buffalo’s offense.
What Could Go Wrong
The biggest risk is the number itself.
The market has already accounted for Buffalo’s fast start.
The Chargers also have enough quarterback talent to exploit defensive mistakes. If Herbert produces explosive plays and avoids turnovers, Los Angeles can stay within one score.
Buffalo’s own injury questions add another variable.
This is not a spot where laying -7 should be treated as automatic.
Live Betting Angle
The first two Chargers possessions are particularly important.
If Los Angeles moves the ball but struggles in the red zone, a live Buffalo position could become more attractive after the market temporarily reacts to yardage.
If Buffalo immediately establishes a two-score advantage, however, chasing a much higher live spread would introduce unnecessary price risk.
Watch efficiency, not just points.
Market to Avoid
Bills Moneyline.
At approximately -370 to -375, the potential return is limited relative to the amount of capital required.
If the Buffalo thesis is correct, the spread provides a more meaningful expression of that view.
Best Bet
Buffalo Bills -7
Buffalo’s offensive production, home-field setting and the Chargers’ current personnel issues provide a legitimate path to separation.
The number is no longer cheap, so this is a price-sensitive play rather than a blind endorsement of the favorite.
Bet: Bills -7
Target Price: -7 up to roughly -115
Confidence: ★★★★☆
Risk: Moderate
Sports Betting Ace’s Final Score Prediction
Buffalo Bills 31, Los Angeles Chargers 21
That produces 52 points and a Buffalo cover.
The important takeaway is not simply Buffalo’s 2-0 record. It is the combination of offensive ceiling, matchup pressure and Los Angeles’ current personnel limitations.
At -7, however, the price matters.
Final Card: Bills -7 | ★★★★☆ | Moderate Risk
Live Watch: Chargers red-zone efficiency
Projected Score: Bills 31-21
